I picked this book from the list of Debut Darlings to earn Goodreads Seasonal Challenge bookmarks. As one can guess, it's a historical phantasy set in 1940s. The British witches offered their services to the state in the battle against fascism. The main character, Lydia, is a young witch tasked with locating a dangerous grimoire with dark magic. While the plot is intriguing, I found the story somewhat flat - I kind of like my historical fantasies to be actually historically correct and well researched - adding magic doesn't excuse the author from creating a realistic lived-in world. About 3.25 stars, not in line with Goodreads ratings, but this is not the first time when my opinion disagrees with mainstream :)
