Lore Olympus: Volume One by Rachel Smythe

3.0

I will preface this by saying, I've seen this series on Webtoon for quite some time but it's never interested me before, despite loving Greek Mythology (the art style just isn't for me, personally), but I'm trying it out for a friend who has been loving and raving about it and wanted me to read it. So here I am giving it a shot.

I'll be honest, so far I'm feeling pretty meh about it. I can't say I've been able to get into it or invested yet. I'm finding myself having a hard time distinguishing between characters a lot of the time, because they all kinda look similar, they're just different colours, but even then the colours slightly shift at times to different hues that can make me question who has entered the scene. And on top of that the appearances of the characters change too, which can also make me confused on who is who.
Aside from that, I like Greek Mythology stories being set in those past Greek times, and not really a modern setting, driving around cars and calling and texting on phones. I like the ancient greece vibes and want to experience those when reading greek mythology, just like how I like the fantasy worlds when reading fantasy books. I experience enough of the modern world as is.

I was originally planning on reading the whole first season to give it a fair shot, but if I'm being honest I currently have no desire to continue. There's just nothing drawing me in or keeping me hooked. So, I think I might just stop here. Forcing myself to read more isn't gonna make me like it either.

Overall, it's not bad. And I'm happy for those who love it so much, but I just don't vibe with it personally. I wanted to like it, but I just like for my greek mythology to be done differently. Not my kind of story or art, is what it comes down to.
