The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco

3.0

Seventeen years ago, one sister goddess betrayed the other which caused their planet to stop rotating. Their daughters go on a quest to undo “The Breaking,” to get the planet to resume rotating. Each daughter, unaware of the other, undergoes their own trials along the way. This climate change fantasy is told from four alternating points of views: goddess Odessa and Lan from the night half; and goddess Haidee and Arjan from the day half. Each chapter alternates between the two parallel quests with each pair undergoing different trials and making new discoveries about the truth about what happened seventeen years ago. Like with many stories with converging storylines, readers might prefer some storyline and/or point of view over others. Readers learn more details behind “The Breaking” as the characters learn them but since the mothers’ point of view isn’t represented they don’t learn everything. This world and its landscapes are fascinating, yet despite a fantastic premise there’s not much different about this book from the other countless YA fantasy quests. Still fans of the Incarceron and the Everless series would likely enjoy this book.
