This book was tough to read. In fact, I debated even reading it because I was so unhappy with how the previous book ended, but alas this was the only book I brought on a weekend trip with me - therefore I read it.
I definitely enjoyed Malik's character much more. He was put in a very difficult position with Ethan's untimely death and the house being put into receivership, but Malik definitely shined. Yes, it took some time for Malik to really come into his new power, but when he stood up to Frank and kicked him out of the house I was cheering him on and rooting for him. Ultimately I liked his ability to not fight Frank's outrageous dictates because that would have just given Frank more power and Malik understood this.
But why oh why did Mallory have to turn into the villain. I hope this gets explained better in the next book because I just do not believe that she could do such a 180 degree turn. But she brought Ethan back!!! Thank goodness. Merit needs Ethan to balance her character, Jonah isn't enough.
So I'm back in 100%. I want to know more about Mallory and I'm happy Ethan is back. Bring on the trek to Nebraska!
