If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
4.0

this is the first book I've finished in 2024 (YAY!)

If We Were Villains tells about seven Shakespeare theater students, and it takes place in a classical academy. it's all fun and games and they love to play in the theatre, until an accident involving one of them happens, something that breaks their friendship and stains red on their white lies. and the real life becomes an undeniably terrifying theatre, they can't enjoy being in the spotlight anymore.

this book has that dark academia genre with the find family trope actually. the bond of each other is good it breaks my heart knowing that they're keeping apart. i really love the vibe, the tension of each act, and the plot (its painfully beautiful though). i am not into classics or Shakespeare myself and to be honest I. DIDNT. REALLY. UNDERSTAND. LMFAO. the best and the worst part of this book is that the characters of this book were quoting Shakespeare most of the time, but still i could enjoy reading it even with a bit confusion.

another thing from this book is that the personalities of some of the characters are not strong enough and inconsistent (is oliver, meredith, and wren for me!). also the plot is kinda predictable so... not really surprised of the plot twists.....

tho i still enjoyed reading this book!!
