Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina García

4.0

Wow! Charts the relationships of a fractured family through the political fracturing of Cuba in the 1970’s to early 80’s. Garcia beautifully crafted each character, whether it be Pilar, the American-raised, liberal youth or her mother, a vehement anti-communist. (There are obviously more characters, these are just a few)
To put simply, the blurring of the personal and political, the broad and the specific, made for a wonderful and touching read.

Also, there is lots of substance regarding womanhood and generational memory. I am curious as to what literary critics have said regarding these themes.
