Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

4.0

Dark Matter is about a physicist who is abducted then wakes up in a different version of his life. The settings are varied and disturbing. The story has an overall troubling tone, effectively conveying the main character's confusion, desperation, and grief as he tries to find his way home. His choices demonstrate how dark a person's mind can turn. While the character's wife is explored, little is learned about their son even though he is an integral part of the protagonist's life. The ending, which is not totally resolved, makes sense but the very last decision made is a little odd given the protagonist's difficult learnings throughout the book. This science fiction thriller is a gripping read, and cannot be put down.
