The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
5.0

Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

This book did two things for me that I thought were impossible.

1. I think the last time I legitimately cried for characters in a book, it was when I was a kid reading Where The Red Fern Grows or Flowers for Algernon.

2. The second thing: As a student I was assigned Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. Though I am a lover of historical fiction, and history in general, I could not get into it—but my classmates were marveling at the amazing depictions of Americans toiling and persevering through The Dust Bowl. But in this book, Kristin Hannah does it for me. She puts the pain, suffering, sadness, desperation—AND will, triumph, strength—all on the page for you.

Read it. I promise. It’s a great ride.
