I've been re-reading all my old Victoria Holt novels (it's been YEARS ago and I've forgotten plots, details, everything). This is one of the rare ones that gave me goosebumps. I really liked the characters in this story, particularly Caroline. She seemed mature and sensible, and yet romantic. I liked the romantic tension, castle setting, the different personalities of the young girls, etc. And the ending! Not going to spoil it for you, but I was surprised.
