Katherine by Anya Seton

I thought this was very well researched in terms of the period and history, and the characters were interesting. I don't know how much of the motivations for the central characters was accurate, but it did make for a compelling internal life for them. Unfortunately, I felt that this was over long, and I wasn't invested in the central romance. It often felt like we were held at a distance from that, seeing it from other people's eyes, rather than from Katherine and John themselves' own feelings. The development of the love story felt somewhat under-developed for me. That could have been because Katherine didn't always feel like a fully active participant in it. It felt like she mostly just went along with it, and if that wasn't what Seton intended, then she should have made that more apparent in her actions. I'm glad I read it, but I won't be rereading it.
