❄️”Love doesn’t leave. It bears all things.” - Mud Vein.❄️

When reclusive novelist Senna Richards wakes up on her thirty-third birthday, everything has changed. Caged behind an electrical fence, locked in a house in the middle of the snow, Senna is left to decode the clues to find out why she was taken. If she wants her freedom, she has to take a close look at her past. But, her past has a heartbeat... and her kidnapper is nowhere to be found. With her survival hanging by a thread, Senna soon realizes this is a game. A dangerous one. Only the truth can set her free.

When I first read this book several years ago, it took me by surprise. I never knew that I could be “seen” so well by a book and have aspects of myself described in such a way that I have never been able to put into words myself. Since this is such a personal book to me, I won’t elaborate too much. But I will say this is one of my favorite books of all time and one of my favorites of Tarryn Fisher’s books. As I have said before, she is a genius of emotional prose and getting into the depth of a character/person. While I can see how this may not be a book for everyone, those who it is for will find it, and will understand exactly what I mean. I will forever love this one!

“Love doesn’t leave. It bears all things” - Mud Vein

Oof. Well that hurt.

This book wasn’t really what I was expecting. I was expecting a story about a woman who had been captured by someone and was working against them to release her, perhaps more thriller-like and bloody? While some of those were in the book, this book instead was about love, relationships, facing inner demons, trauma, life and death, strength, and the power of human connection. All while a woman was trapped in a desolate cabin in the snow.

I loved this book. It brought me to tears at several points and it also made me feel love at some points. The characters in this book were very mysterious, but well thought out and complex. Even at the end of the story, there is much to wonder about as not everything is explained. The ending of the book was also devastatingly beautiful. I was definitely rooting for a different ending, one that to me would have been “happier” maybe, but this ending did ultimately fit the book. I can’t get enough of books like these and even just sitting here writing this review I can’t get it off of my mind. This is the first book that I have read by Tarryn Fisher and I will definitely be back for more.
