Understandably, there are some mixed reviews on this book. I think if you go into this expecting another classic Lisa Jewell thriller, you’ll be disappointed. This isn’t a thriller. This is a captivating story about complex family dynamics, festering secrets, grief, mental illness, healing, forgiveness and love.
This was beautifully written and the character development was fantastic. I felt like I knew every single character on a personal level. Everyone was so flawed in their own ways, yet also relatable and even likeable. This book explores some really deep and dark topics involving grief and how that affects everyone differently. Grief was a major part in what pushed this family apart, but also what brought it back together.
This is a very slow-paced read that was perhaps a little longer than it needed to be, but I loved the writing and the ending was done beautifully.
