Do you get a feeling that a book will be a five-star read even before you have actually read it?
This is what I felt in 𝙵𝚘𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚛 by Claire Keegan. Although it was a short read, I felt more than full after reading it. It's everything I've ever hoped for and more. I want to reread it right after finishing.
This short book centers around a young girl living in rural Ireland. She was taken by her father to temporarily live with the Kinsellas, her relatives. Growing up with many siblings was hard, but as she stayed with John and Edna, she blossomed like a petal as they showered her with love and affection.
I love everything about this book. It was written simply but so perfectly. Reading along makes you feel like you're walking along the trees on a cool, windy day. I loved how it felt nostalgic and reflective. But what I really loved about Foster was its pacing. I loved that although it is fast-paced, the little details, such as the girl's relationship with the Kinsellas, were shown slowly. You could tell that as the days passed, they had gotten closer and more comfortable with each other.
Overall, this was a perfect read. I'm very sure this would be one of my top favorites, if not the very best. If you're looking for an easy, short book about love, belonging, and family to read in one sitting, this is the perfect book for you. I wouldn't recommend anything else.
