Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon

2.0

This is the fourth book in the Outlander series. After not really enjoying Voyager last month, I kind of wanted to take a break from Outlander, but I had also already started this book a year or two ago and wanted to get it out of my TBR list. Like Voyager, I could take it or leave it. After being shipwrecked at the end of Voyager, Claire and Jamie decide to try to make a life for themselves in the colonies and settle in North Carolina. I actually did enjoy the parts of this book that focused on building their settlement. It felt a little bit like a grown up version of Little House on the Prairie... with a *slightly* more nuanced but still kind of racist perspective on relations with Indigenous people, but a good portion of the book actually focuses on Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna, and her relationship with Roger, which just bored me to sleep most of the time (literally, since I usually read before bed). I will probably revisit Claire and Jamie again in the future, but after two duds in a row, I need a break from this series.
