Blurred Lines by Andi Jaxon

5.0

I've been waiting to read Brendon and Paul's story since I read [b:Hidden Scars|62775194|Hidden Scars (Darby U Hockey Boys, #1)|Andi Jaxon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1664484813l/62775194._SY75_.jpg|98160742] quite a while ago. And I was both looking forward to it and dreading it, because, let's be honest, [a:Andi Jaxon|17435346|Andi Jaxon|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1539659775p2/17435346.jpg] doesn't write easy-to-read stories. And maybe [b:Blurred Lines|122753206|Blurred Lines (Darby U Hockey Boys, #2)|Andi Jaxon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1695894270l/122753206._SY75_.jpg|144016536] is not as "dark" or "distressing" as the first book in this series, (or perhaps Bully King or Rescue Me (former Learning Curve), to name some of her other books), but it is just as INTENSE. And I have to say that it does have a couple of scenes that are particularly hard and painful to read, and that every time I remember them, I feel angry at the lack of resolution, although the author explains why, and it is likely that we will have it later in other of her books.

But what sets it apart, what makes it different from other works by this author, is that you can feel the love that the MCs feel for each other from the beginning, even if none of them realize it the other is feeling it too. I mean, they know they love deeply each other, they don't know they are IN love yet. The acceptance and support they give each other, despite the fact that Brendon feels so many insecurities about himself, believing that he is a burden, something that he has been carrying since his childhood, and that only it got worse due to certain situations that left him traumatized, and despite the very fears and demons that Paul himself struggles with.

Although it is a relationship where codependency is very present, however, it is not toxic. Maybe because they complement each other so well, and comfort each other in a way that only shows the love they have for each other. And maybe because once their true feelings for each other come to light, the relationship between them is honest. Do you find it difficult to confess your fears? Yes. But they don't lie to each other, they don't hide from each other.

And the second thing that distinguishes this story from others by the author is the humor. One moment you're suffering for the MCs, and the next, Brendon is acting like... Brendon, and you can't help but laugh.

I loved it. The whole story. The sad and painful parts, the really HOT and sexy and romantic parts, the humor... It's a book that has everything. And I loved reading about Jeremy and Preston, I loved their day-to-day life as a couple, seeing that they did not lose their essence. And not to leave them out, the rest of the teammates. I'm REALLY waiting for the next book!

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
