the best way to read this book is in one sitting, ravenously and with total disregard for any other responsibilities. it is delicious, it is sickening, and it is wonderful. the author writes in her acknowledgements that she hopes "[the story] sticks to your bones in the best possible way". it is certainly stuck to mine.
