Cosmos by Carl Sagan
4.0

Cosmos was part fascinating and part too detailed. I enjoyed the chapters discussing galaxies near and far to our humble home. Dr. Sagan's book taught me many new facts about solar neighbors and those who studied the stars. I loved reading about how very early scientists were able to note and prove the Earth was round and could closely determine its approximate size. Did Einstein's teachers really say he would never amount to anything? Later chapters lost my interest at times, especially Chapter 12, with the discussion of the Drake equation and determining the possibility of extraterrestrial life. The detailed discussion of the aftereffects of surviving an atomic bomb was more than what I felt was needed. Cosmos truly covers what we know about our universe from its beginning to the time of the book's publication. For any one wanting a an excellent reference about space and our place in it, I would definitely suggest this book as one to check out.
