Girl Last Seen by Nina Laurin

challenging dark tense fast-paced

3.5

I’m feeling kind of mixed with this one. I was interested enough to want to keep reading. It was definitely a page turner. Fast and easy read.
The story was just a bit odd though. Like not fully fledged. There were storylines that would just kind of fade with no real explanation or follow-up.  It was all a bit fuzzy. The main character was also very frustrating to follow. Constantly making things harder on herself, and making one bad decision after another. I get that she’s supposed to be broken and flawed, but if she had ever just spoken her thoughts out loud once, things wouldn’t have had to unfold the way they did. I get kind of annoyed by that character ‘technique’. It’s an easy substitute for a more developed plot.
I can see how this is the work of a first time author. I think with more time and experience, some of these criticisms would be resolved.
