A book about future space travel, and different planets...yet thoroughly couched in 1960s American mindset.

This book felt very slow and meandering. It struggled to keep my attention at various points, and I didn't really feel that there was a climax to the book at all, unless you count the last 3 pages.

It brought up so many interesting points regarding immersion in other cultures, and the intriguing idea of a species that can change its gender. The "bigender" aspect of the planet is a big focus of our narrator, and the political wheelings and dealings that occur seem to happen to him rather than involve him.

The book also feels very dated and American. I legitimately cannot imagine a future using the imperial measuring system over the metric system. Additionally, the continued use of "he/she" pronouns even in a bigender setting also felt very odd, but likely is due to the time it came out.

Ultimately, very meh. Interesting concepts and premise, promising topics to potentially cover, but just... Not that engaging nor addressing everything I would have hoped.
