I got this book as one of my First Reads.

I'm kind of new to fantasy, but with books like this, I'm rapidly becoming a big fan.

While the Dark Remains grabbed my attention and kept it throughout. It drew me into the world it created, and put me side-by-side with the characters.

It was paced well, and even the swtiching from one time frame to another was well handled, so as not to be disruptive or confusing.

I took some points away because as the story unfolded, Saga really began to grate on my nerves; I gave them back for the jaw-dropping twist near the end! Any book that can shock me so much I have to put the book down--and then re-read to make sure I got it right--is a good book.

The only reason I didn't give this a five-star rating is that while I was caught up in the story, I was able to put it down to do something else (knowing that I'd come back to it).

I would definitely read other books by this author, especially a continuation of this story.
