Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco
slow-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? Plot
2.75
it starts off SO well, really playing with our anticipation but much like the second book, a lot of the plot twists were obvious from their first moment and it is not fun to know the answer to a "mystery" like 10 chapters before your protagonist figures it out, even if she is under some spell-amnesia. it was so annoying and dull and killed the climax of so many moments. it's sad because the plot isn't entirely bad (though it's convoluted) but we have so little satisfaction of it.
it's a YA trilogy and it takes until the 3rd book for us to get some actual sex. and then there is a lot of it. maybe too much of it.
- possibly my biggest gripe is that after EVERYTHING Wrath has done over the last 2 books, is that he apparently just throws his feet up in this book and resigns himself to "I won't be able to actually love my soulmate and I won't tell her but it'll be fine"... what? That is so not him.
- and then to top it off, it's on page 300 of 400 in the THIRD and FINAL book of this series, that we find out actually there's a time limit on this curse. oh and it ends in a DAY. but hey, let's have sex for the 50th time because THERE IS NO SENSE OF URGENCY AFTER THREE BOOKS WORTH OF TRYING TO UNRAVEL THIS WHOLE FUCKING THING.
