Enclave by Ann Aguirre
4.0

This is one of my most favorite series ever.
I reread this one all the time whenever I'm in a slump!

Deuce was born underground, it's all she has known. She's also always known that she wanted to be a huntress. One of the most important jobs in the Enclave. Protection. They go out and scavenge for food and at the same time they dispatch what they call "freaks". They are zombie like creatures (reminds me of wretches in Gears of War {video game}) that are dead set on one thing, killing and eating.

Once she becomes a huntress she is teamed up with a guy named Fade. He came from above ground and is treated very differently from the others. She doesn't want to be teamed up with him but as a newbie she has to. Together they face what no one would have expected. They are sent out to check out another enclave and when they see that it has been overrun they come back with that information. Shortly after they are exiled for something that neither of them did.

From there they end up topside and have to face a whole new world. Something Deuce has a hard time coming to terms with. She is forced out of a life she knew into something scary. But she is resilient. She overcomes so much and grows so much as a character that its awesome to see.

I love the writing style and world being built. A little dark and a lot action filled. Like I said, one of my favorite series ever.
