katiebrumbelow 's review for:
Sweetland
by Michael Crummey
i struggle between 3 and 4 stars. The writing is rich and really makes you believe these people are real. I enjoyed the story of Sweetland, especially the second half of the book. some reviewers found the second half of the book boring but i thought it was better.
My main problem with the book was how the writer jumped around in time without much warning. So, it took a second to realize we were 25 years in the past, and then we are back to present, and then we are a year ago, etc. He also doesn't use quotation marks half the time so it's hard to know what's said as conversation, what's thought, and what's description.
i would read more from Crummey as i enjoyed his storytelling.
