The Black Star of Kingston by S.D. Smith

4.0

An interesting back story into the world of the Green Ember that adds a lot of significance to events in the main series with Heather and Pickett. I’m glad I read this book in publishing order right after the first one in the green ember series - I definitely feel more informed going into the second one.

The story has some heavy emotional moments and is built on core themes of loyalty and courage. It showcases the authors different takes on leadership styles and is in a way inspiring, as we see the rabbits build their worlds from scratch. There are definitely some frustrating situations and annoying character traits, but it’s all built well into the story and you learn to understand the characters and tolerate their weaknesses.

It’s a great, short read overall that you can finish in one or two sittings. Leaves me personally inspired and eagerly waiting to get my hands on the second ember book!
