The second book slumps strikes on this one for me.
The Prisoner Healer was full of high stakes, fast pace, edge of your seat action during the trials, and a super cute banter in a bit of a slow burn romance.
The Gilded Cage had none of that. I was bored more often than not and you couldn't force me to care about any of the characters. Not a single one. If Noni had decided to kill off Kiva, or Jaren, or any of the main characters I would probably have a sigh of relief. Relief that something shocking happened. Even the "bad guy" was more annoying than cunning.
I'm hoping that book 3 brings us back to how we felt back in the prison.
