Amnesia or memory loss is one of my hated tropes and usually I stop reading a series when an author uses it to reboot a character or add tension to a relationship.

I’m glad I didn’t stop reading this. Frost didn’t let it last forever and didn’t overly use it to reinvigorate things between Ian and Veritas.

Sometimes I feel like I keep reading an author just to recapture the joy of their first book. I feel that way with every book of Thea Harrison’s after Dragon Bound and now with all of Frost’s books after the first Cat and Bones book (okay and the first Leila/Vlad book). Neither author had ever matched those first books for me. Not sure why....

Frost’s books get kind of bogged down in her world building: characters, etc. teleporting everywhere, side quests, added complexity layers to everything. Now the new twist at the end of this book-
