pheebs1776 's review for:
The Chemist
by Stephenie Meyer
I am going to be honest, the title got me at first. I was searching through Amazon and the book popped up, and in one of my irrational book decisions, I bought it. At the time I did not realize it was by Meyer, who wrote the twilight series, and no offense to Meyer, but if I had known, I would not have read it. The beginning was painstakingly slow and by the time I decided that the book truly wasn't worth it to finish, and I did not care for the characters, I was 150 pages in and thought, eh, I spent good money on this and I should probably just finish it. Good thing I did. The writing was solid, and very easy to follow, especially during fight scenes. They were engaging, and by the end of the book, I actually cared about what happened to the characters and if they would survive in the end. It is not my favorite book, as it is hardly original. The whole plot is a mix of spy and romance cliche that had me dangerously close to chucking the book into the garbage can, but the interactive and realistic dialogue and engaging characters prevented me from doing so. Overall it was decent, but the ending is quite satisfying, and mostly worth the time to read. Though I do have one major petty and stupid complaint, Who names a spy Kevin?
