Persuasion by Jane Austen

3.0

I had fun reading this like I have fun reading any Austen novel, but I also can’t deny the colonialism and feudalism giving way to capitalism throughout that praises money, land, and military service as an enricher of an individual.

The prose is fun, the story was predictable but sweet, and I still have a hard time calling Jane Austen anything but a genius - I can’t blame her for how small English society and opinions must have truly been at that time.
