Only Beloved by Mary Balogh

2.0

I don't have too much to say about this one. I enjoyed it, but it was a fairly slow read for me. I even took a day or two long break in the middle of reading it. Although I like both Dora and George as characters, I just couldn't seem to connect much with them. Their relationship seemed a bit lukewarm to me. The catty, plotting neighbors didn't really invest me in the plot and I could see the result of the character of Miriam's half-brother from the moment he was written into their wedding scene.
At the end of this book there is an epilogue to wrap up the Survivors series and I truthfully thought it left the book on a worse note than if it had just ended with the conclusion focused on Dora and George's relationship. But that could just be me because, for the most part, I hate epilogues. The unecessary, three page, they-lived-happily-ever-after epilogues at the end of books really bother me. It feels lazy to me. Lik the p.s. at the end of a letter. An afterthought that wasn't important enough to fit in nicely and seemlessly at the end. It wasn't a great book, but it certainly wasn't a bad book. It simpy just didn't provoke much feeling in me, I'm very neutral in regards to it. Since I wasn't abe to feel any emotional conncection to this book a 2.5 is probably approptiate.
