Ayeshah's Secret Vol. 1 by Jing Zhang
5.0
Ignore me, I’m just over here losing my cool! Wow! Wow! Wow! The art, the characters and the twists!
Ayeshah’s Secret is a psychological, thriller, horror, mystery with a splash of romance (this is to be debated because is it really romantic?) narrative about a female who loses her father and becomes the target of mistreatment from her stepmother and three sons. It is safe to say that this a flipped Cinderella retelling with more blood and gore. There is a lot of the whole evil stepmother and stepsibling retelling, but this one takes the cake. With unsuspecting twists and curveballs plus the right amount of creepy suspense, Ayeyah’s secret is a short masterpiece.
OMG! If it was possible to marry an art style, I would want to marry this one. A part from the plot itself, the art was a major attraction factor. It was so vivid and detailed and accentuated the horror of the story. I will stop here in fear of disclosing some of the secrets in the story and ruin it for those who may want to read it. There are only two volumes.
As much as it pains me, there were issues that did not sit well with me. Like the character arcs and unanswered questions, this might be due to how short the manhua is but I wish certain details were more in depth.
WARNING: THIS IS NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGES OF 18. There is nothing sexually graphic but there are gory details not suitable for younger audiences.
