3.5 stars. This is another one of those books (much like The Song of Achilles) which was very well written and supposedly ‘excellent’, despite neither being a typical story I’d choose to read. I’ve got this for my English class, so I will be reading it over again and again, and analysing it in depth. Winterson’s use of fairytales and stories as allegories throughout was really interesting, although sometimes it felt a little bit contrived.
