The Adventure Zone: The Crystal Kingdom by Griffin McElroy, Clint McElroy, Justin McElroy, Travis McElroy

5.0

I already knew how the story went (spoiler for a podcast that ended 5 years ago), but I love to see how they tweak the story to fit better in the graphic novel without being 87,000 pages. The Carey Pietsch does a fantastic job illustrating, and the facial expressions and body language of the characters add so much to the story. I didn’t cry while listening to this arc, but reading the story now felt more emotional. Since Griffin hadn’t really worked out a lot of the story until the final arc, it’s cool to see how they retconned certain relationships, like Killian and Carey’s being 100% solidified in the novel, and Taako flirting with Kravitz now. While I missed some of the more memorable interactions, I can understand why they were cut for time and space. As long as the “I’m going to tentacle your dick” line was kept in, I was all good.
