I found the first couple of chapters challenging to read due to the 1960's slang which used in the a few of the character's dialect. Eventually I got used to this style of writing and found myself thoroughly enjoying the book. The Mental Institute worked well as the setting for the rebellious, anti-establishment characters. It contains some humorous moments, making the dark subject matter more easy to consume. The characters are not good people, yet I still found myself wanting things to work out in their favour. Overall, an interesting book for readers with a darker sense of humour.
Graphic: Chronic illness, Forced institutionalization, Racial slurs, and Mental illness
Moderate: Colonisation, Death, Medical content, Medical trauma, Sexual assault, and Sexual harassment
