Harrowing and powerful in equal measures. Reading the first chapter/section from the IDF soldier's perspective and seeing how they treated the young woman was appaling, but I can see why the author opened the book that way. We witness first hand the violence and cruelty of the Israeli soldiers and their complete lack of empathy towards Palestinian people.

The symbolism threaded through both parts of the story was fantastic, and the growing parallels between what happened to the woman in 1949 and what happens to our present day narrator were masterfully written.
