Love Is Love: A Comic Book Anthology to Benefit the Survivors of the Orlando Pulse Shooting by Marc Andreyko

4.0

I picked this comic up from the library, but apparently this anthology was sold for charity. Which is a good cause, so I like what this comic is trying to do. Very heartfelt anthology so it’s hard to critique.
I think there’s alot of very well done contributions in here. And they’re all 1-2 pages but use the length perfectly. So many anthologies feel like the artists didn’t have enough pages. The main critique I’ve seen is the amount of non LGBT artists/authors. I don’t really see a problem with allies contributing work but a lot of them seemed to just be inserting themselves. Lots of crying over the news or explaining homophobia to kids. And I feel bad for saying that because that’s how the artists chose to respond to the prompt. Idk how this anthology was put together, and I do like how it seemed like anyone could contribute but yeah too many of those kind of stories. Again I feel bad for saying this because this is such a personal anthology about a tragedy.
I’ll also say the cover is misleading, there’s alot of hard hitting stories in here. A tough read at times but something I’m glad I read.
The second half has less of the repetive stories so I enjoyed it more. It’s just a really beautiful and bittersweet art piece.
