This novel somehow reminds me of Battle Royale. It's a large melee between two factions (played off against each other by the Akura sage, Charity.
The uncrowned tournament is approaching and each monarch is preparing their champions to win in the tournament.
To find their best champions and to increase the power of their vessels, the Akura sage invited all of their vessels to train in the Akura training ground. She will pick the three best winners to represent the Akura family.
As I mentioned, it reminds me of Battle Royale with different factions fighting each other to gain advantage over their human rivals.
All three of the usual suspects make it to underlord level and qualify for the uncrowned tournament. It is not much of a surprise so I'm not giving away anything.
However, something bigger is happening in side stories, the sacred valley and among the Abideon. How do they all fit together? Not sure yet, but can't wait to read the next book.
