solid 4 :-) not the usual book i read but i was very interested after reading the summary of it. it almost seemed romance novel-y lol but i was definitely intrigued trying to figure out eleanor. it was quite dark even in the beginning and i think these pull quotes are.... misleading (looking at you reese witherspoon). anyway! i enjoyed it regardless though i didn’t find it incredibly funny as some reviews suggested.
i think eleanor’s misplaced confidence and her way of talking properly and way of living could seem odd to people (thats how i saw it), i didn’t find it Funny. i thought some of this humor was actually off putting and unintentionally mean and you understand how and why as you read the book but like i said, i just didn’t find it funny. like i feel it was clear she wasn’t the greatest at social situations and interacting with others but i dont find that funny? i dont know i just feel like that was a point in so much of the pull quotes that i was waiting to laugh but it never came.
i really wasn’t expecting the explanation of it all but like i also was? but i also wasn’t. dont know how to coherently explain that. i did really appreciate eleanor and glen and and sammy AND raymond. i’m so happy eleanor was able to find such a kind person like raymond. his entrance into her life starts such a wonderful ripple effect for her and it was so beautiful to see it roll out and then continue even through her bad days.
anyway as i was saying: didn’t understand how it was funny to some people BUT i really did enjoy the book. i was so intrigued by eleanor’s story and what was happening/what had happened and would’ve finished it sooner had it not been for adult life happening simultaneously. i love eleanor oliphant i hope she’s having a great day
