I think John Scalzi is becoming one of my favorite authors. His stories are fun, engaging, and not overly tense or dramatic - they hook you and the hook just keeps pulling (in a good way!)
That isn’t to say that his stories, or this one, are all light and fluffy. I wish I could better articulate how I feel, but I’ll say for now that the itch in my brain that Foundation (the show, not the book series - though I will get to those) scratched was definitely scratched with this specific novel as well. Something about a space empire in crisis and the motley crew working together and apart to prepare for it (or ignore it) really just works for me. Can’t wait to get to the next. Frankly, will be devastated when I run out of JS backlog to read.
