Bury Your Gays: An Anthology of Tragic Queer Horror by Sofia Ajram

dark medium-paced

4.0

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I wish I could say I enjoyed this book but I can't truly say that. It took too many of my nightmares and the nightmares of my friends and loved ones - tore them out of me and laid them on the exam table. Engorged and rotted nightmares of body horror and societal horror held up as the monster it really is.
The stories in this book are more poetic and cerebral than horror pulp and reading them takes a lot not only to get through but also to process after.
I would highly recommend content warnings for things like homophobia, body dysphoria, rape, and more. Be kind to yourself when reading but if you're looking for queer horror by queer authors, this is it.
