The Rest of the Story by Tal Bauer
5.0
Oh my goodness, this book! How on earth can Tal Bauer create something extraordinarily special every time is beyond me, but I'm here for it!
The Rest of the Story tells Morgan's story. It tells a tale about powerful, all-consuming love. And not just the romantic kind but the kind that grows between unlikely friends who've been through some really bad things together.
Morgan is traded to the worst team in the NHL. But when he arrives, it turns out there's a reason for them being so low on the leaderboard. That reason is a horrible, horrible situation that Morgan has the chance to save them all from.
And from those broken men with good leadership and being there for each other, they forge something powerful.
The Outlaws don't just become teammates. They become family.
The team doesn't just show up to play. They are there to prove themselves.
They don't just try. They shine bright together.
The team dynamics, the love between those friends, the protectivness. It's absolutely indescribable! I felt every moment of happiness and every moment of agony with them. It was amazingly written.
And the love story? Because this is about romantic love too. It's the sweetest, most powerful lovestory I ever read. Morgan and Shae's journey is slow and full of learning and healing before it becomes anything more than friendship. Especially on Morgan's part. He quickly became one of my favourite main characters of all time! His past and his character and his strength are all there on the open for everyone to see except himself. His self-doubt and self-deprecation are the saddest and most heartwrenching things I've ever seen. He is so precious. Fortunately, there's Shae, the team, Kathy, to show him how much his true worth is.
The connection, the chemistry, and the inevitability between Shae and Morgan took my breath away. I could feel every breath, every small touch, every smile, and I fell in love alongside Morgan.
I have to say, I'm not much for spicy books, so I enjoyed the slow burn feeling in this book. And when they finally came together, it was one of the best hot scenes I've ever read. It felt right!
But of course, while it seemed like the happiness might consume me, there was a gut punch of a final twist. Just to really squeeze out those tears. And o, the tears came. I was utterly heartbroken! And yet, these precious men who already have been through so much came through at the end.
I can't even telliff this review makes any sense or not. I just tried to express all these emotions inside me. Tal Bauer can write romance like no one else. Amazing!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of the book.*
