The horrors. But oh, how well they were written. The horrific things happening in this book and the amazing writing that contrasted them, made a devastating read into a pleasurable one. Did some things make me have to put the book down? Yes. Did I have to pick it back up immediately to see what happened next? Also yes.

Aside from the prophetic foresight Butler has considering events happening in 2024 and 2025, this is such a strong story of perseverance and hope that you just have to keep on reading. Even if the religious, or spiritual, aspect of the book is not your cup of tea, the rest of the book and the themes it  encompasses will keep you asking for more.

I was a bit frustrated with the ending, it felt too abrupt, and I could've read more. Lucky for me, there is a second book.

p.s. really makes you also re-evaluate the idea of zombie movies. Are we all so capable of becoming mindless monsters (literally or figuratively, depending on genre)?
