I really loved this duology, and reading both of them one after the other consumed me for the past month ish (slower reader here) in the best way.
The only thing that I didn’t love is how fast the ending went. Like I feel like we could’ve spent less time in the middle part and a lot more time at the ending part? No spoilers here, but that’s the only thing I would’ve preferred (espeeecially with the last about 50 pages, I wish that would’ve been a lot longer). I think because of the middle part of this book, it just felt a bit disconnected to the whole first book. I love them so much as separate books! But it is a little harder for me to see them as a connected duology when reading it since book two took on such a different life. Again, in a wonderful way - but just different.
Despite that - this is such a good book. I love how the author goes into death, grief, and trauma and made the hunger for power stand out but move subtly for our main character. There’s also so much humor in this story that I think made the characters so lovable and fun, and I love how much I loved literally everyone in the story. This was just a really fun read, and I really hope to read more from Analeigh Sbrana soon!
