The Master Butchers Singing Club by Louise Erdrich

4.0

When this book came up in my neighborhood book club as the book for April, I did not plan to read it - it just didn't sound that good to me. However, I needed to go on a long drive, so I got the book on CD read by the author (fabulous!) along with another book on CD in case I didn't like this one. This book took me in from the very first few pages. It was unlike any other pioneer/immigrant/Indian/20th c. German story I had ever heard or read. I loved the character of Delphine - her straightforward, no-BS attitude, her loyalty, her industry, her survivor instinct. I also really appreciated the writing, the development of the characters, the details about the people and the places, and their experiences.
