Betting On Love by Maria Ann Green

4.0

Maria Ann Green’s Betting on Love is a steamy, fun romp into the world of reality TV dating, and I’m so here for it.

When November “Nova” Cole’s friends manage to get her on The Key (a reality dating show) she knows that things won’t be as they seem, even if this season’s “Key,” Finn Taylor, is all sorts of charming and gorgeous. Regardless, she’s determined to be true to herself, and decides to be upfront and honest with Finn about her bisexuality. When she starts to feel a deeper attraction to Finn, she thinks that their connection might just be genuine after all. However, Nova can’t deny the pull she also feels toward fellow contestant, Jesse Chase. As Nova’s feelings fragment in two directions, will she see be able to discern what’s real and go after who and what she really wants?

I appreciated how Green presents us with a flawed, complicated protagonist who grapples with her identity and her sexuality. While I don’t typically care for love triangle-type stories, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I loved the juxtaposition between the farcical reality show and the very real, emotional journey that Nova undergoes throughout the narrative. I wasn’t sure how this book was going to end, and was very happy that I didn’t. Plot-wise, Green always manages to surprise me… in the best way possible. This is also the first of a series, and I can’t wait to read the next book!

If you’re looking for a more diverse, super sexy (and I mean, SEXY), romance that defies a lot of stereotypes, Betting on Love is the book for you.
