A Kind of Freedom by Margaret Wilkerson Sexton

5.0

Wonderful debut novel from Wilkerson-Sexton. She explores issues of systemic racism, poverty, and addiction across three generations. A Kind of Freedom is a consuming read, I was sad to leave the characters when it ended. Sexton's writing is superb. I'm still thinking about this line: “He was by no means a thief, but Jackie had learned the hard way that life could drag disgrace out of you.” I'd definitely recommend!
