Ruthless Empire

4.5 stars
Rina Kent really outdid herself with this book. The plot twist at the end was mind-blowing, insane, jaw-dropping, fucked-up, disgusting, and everything I did not expect from this book. Rina is a mastermind, and the way she plotted everything in this book was just insane. The plotline, the characters, the drama, the angsty and forbidden romance, the redemption arc of Silver, the kinky smut, the shocking twist at the end—everything was perfect. Rina graciously blended both the romance and the suspense elements to create a story that not only took me on a wild and insane ride of emotions but also served the dark, twisted, and unhinged side of the world. To simply describe this book: it’s mindfuckery at its best.
Silver Queens was always called the Queen B in previous books. She was an uncaring and self-centred person who bullied people because she thought showing concern, real feelings, and emotions was a weakness. I always wanted to know her side of the story because, as much as I hated her before, she had valid reasons for behaving that way. I learned so much about her and why she acts the way she does. She just felt too much and masked it behind her Queen B persona, burdened by guilt and pain after her parents’ divorce. Then, when she started having these forbidden thoughts about Cole, knowing he’s her stepbrother, it only added to her internal chaos. She cares for people in her own way, even though she doesn’t show it. I also loved finding out that Silver was always secretly helping Kim with her bullies. She has the best redemption arc in this series, and I loved seeing her finally come out of her bitchy shell to be the person she always wanted to be.
She leans in to whisper, “You don’t know what I’m feeling right now, but I’m going to make you regret it.”
Cole Nash is an enigma. He’s a charmer for everyone, but he’s a man who can be undone by only one woman, and that’s Silver Queens. Cole loves chaos and can’t live without it. And that chaos comes in the form of a particular blonde queen who doesn’t give a shit about him. Everybody misreads him, thinking he’s just a silent, nerdy boy who reads books and hides behind them, but they never knew that he’s observing everyone, waiting to find out their secrets to use against them. That’s why I was entranced by his twisted personality. Cole also has this kinky side to him, and I’m telling you all—he is the embodiment of “It’s always the quiet ones.” Cole loves to play mind games and be in control of every situation, and Silver is the only one who flusters him. I love watching his petty little bitch side. He’s the only normal MMC in this series (well, as normal as a psychopath can be), and he’s not like Aiden, who wanted to destroy the FMC or the world, thinking he’s the king of everything. Cole did want Silver, but it was because he felt like himself with her—he didn’t need to hide his true self from her.
“Well, here’s the thing, Butterfly.” He leans over and brushes his lips against my nose. “I don’t mind self-destructing if it’s with you.”

“Silver’s not only chaos, she’s also a goddess. The type everyone can watch from afar, but I’m the only one who gets to worship at her altar.”

“Here’s the thing, Butterfly, I can’t stop.”
“Why not?”
“Because you’re my chaos, and I can’t survive without chaos.”
“I’m chaos?”
“The worst of all. The most beautiful of all. And you know what? You might as well be the deadliest.”
