The Dinosaur Lords by Victor Milán
2.0
I really wanted to love this book when I first got it. Then around the halfway point, I wanted to like this book. I had to stop at three quarters. I hate not finishing books. But I didn't have anything left to care about.
I personally really liked the Rob & Karyl combo and found them to be the most interesting characters. I skipped to the end to find out what happened to just them. Most of the other characters were uninspiring. I didn't care what happened to them. So many were interchangeable, too, that didn't help with them being boring: the princess's entourage, the Brothers in Jaume's order. Interchangeable and boring.
The notion of dinosaurs as war weapons and steeds was awesome. Those scenes were well-written and I would have enjoyed more of them. I found the world-building tedious in places, and the large cast of characters became hard to follow. I've seen other reviews using the word "bloated" and I think that is a good descriptor here.
This book had so much potential and it really didn't do it for me. I would give this author another shot but not in this series.
