The Storyteller by Traci Chee

4.0

wow, that was intense
I wasn't sure how she was going to end it, but i think she did a good job.
I really like the concept of this series, it's really interesting and it's not just a generic fantasy novel. Almost all the characters are incredibly flat. *cough* Sefia *cough* Archer* cough*
I really like Reed.
Spoiler I was kind of confused by the tattoos thing. Why do Reed's tattoos have anything to do with the last piece of the amulet? That was really weird
Reed was really fun and he actually had a purpose in life which made him more realistic. Tanin was also good. I liked her. She, like Reed, was more dynamic than Sefia and Archer (and others). I think the problem was that she spent too much time world-building and ran out of space for character development. The romance was cheesy and not great, but still better than in some other books.
Spoiler I liked how Traci Chee put herself into the story. She was the Scribe. I thought that was cool. It got a little weird though because she is technically also the Storyteller so...? The part where it became first person and the part where it addressed the reader were probably necessary, but they are a different writing style, which I didn't love. Those parts reminded me of The Tale of Despereaux which is a great book, but Kate DiCamillo's writing style is very different from Chee's.
Overall though, I liked this book and I liked this series.
