The Demon King
by Cinda Williams Chima
I was in the mood to read fantasy but had no idea of what read so I just “grabbed” (ebook) this one even though I did not know what it was about. Like I said I didn’t know what it was about, what to expect and it ended up being and amazing surprise!!!
This is the first books in the Seven Realms series and follows two points of view, Han and Raisa. This is not a book full of action but more like a set up for the next book in the series. We are introduced to a new world and informed how everything works and what happens in the past, so there is a lot of world building. There is magic and a very interesting development of its story in this book. The atmosphere of this book kind of reminded me of King’s Landing (Game of Thrones) and The Name of the Wind even though they’re complete different.
When it comes to characters I liked all of them but my favorite was Han, a reformed teenage thief. I don’t really know why I like him, I just do! Raisa to me as a bit annoying in the beginning but as the novel progressed she grew a little on me and her encounter with Han made me ship them! :D
The only “bad” thing to me about this book was the writing style. Not that it was bad, it just took me a while to get into.
In conclusion I loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next one!!!
