I'm so disappointed in this book since Never Let Me Go was such a masterpiece. The biggest issue I have with it is the set of characters, who are the some of the most insufferable people I've ever seen. The protagonist, especially, is frustratingly spineless. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not that I hate all books with unlikable characters but given that Never Let Me Go had such fleshed out characters who we grow to love despite their flaws, I expected better.
Edit: I've been seeing some discussions about Kazuo Ishiguro on reddit and one user pointed out that although not much happens in his stories, you somehow cannot stop yourself from reading further and I AGREE. Although I did not like this read very much I certainly did keep turning the next page over and over. So I guess I should add an extra half star for that because it's brilliant!
Edit 2: nevermind upon further reflection I can see it's a great book so I take back all my criticisms. (This is the worst review I've ever written)
